Feasibility Study for large scale site expansion at the Houghton-Le-Spring site
I led a feasibility study of a significant capacity expansion project for the site involving the development of novel process equipment and significant civils and service utilities scope.
Project Manager for the transfer and installation of a complete radiator factory from South Wales to Team Valley
I was appointed in September ‘19, as project lead of the Gateshead side and Principal Designer (Construction Design & Management regulations 2015). I carried out the following tasks:
- Quickly generated a 3D model of the proposed new factory layout, which I used to gain firm agreement from the site management
- Designed and specified the civil and structural requirements, then tendered for this work and appointed several contractors on an accelerated schedule
- Cleared the area (~50,000 sq. ft.) by relocating the internal pallet storage and R&D test unit to a new rented facility in Washington and the electric radiator assembly and test facility to the Distribution Centre in Birtley
- Managed the significant civil changes and the installation of new three-phase power and process gas distribution
- Led the installation and commissioning of the relocated equipment and the sourcing of a new 110m long overhead crane
Refurbishment of the facility and installation of specialist metal processing machines for Spincraft ETG Ltd, Newburn and Benwell sites, Newcastle
I led the refurbishment of a large industrial unit for Spincraft ETG Ltd. including the installation of new machines and equipment to create a dedicated aerospace component manufacturing facility. The scope included;
- Development of an efficient layout of machines and processes for the unit, using a 3D modelling package
- Completion of an electrical survey to understand electrical supply constraints and how to supply all new equipment with the minimum of new electrical installation work
- Removal of all the existing machinery and redundant services from the unit
- Installation of new isolated foundations for the new large 5-axis machining and spinning machines
- Steam cleaning and repainting of the internal roof cladding
- Grinding and epoxy coating of the floors
- Installation of new, efficient low-bay LED lighting
- Design and installation of high-spec partitioning for some specialist inspection operations
- Co-ordination of the installation of new presses, co-ordinate measuring machines and other specialist equipment
- Sourcing of a new Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection line
- Completion of a detailed study to determine the safe procedure for installation of some very large presses
- Management of all aspects of the delivery (health and safety, commercial, quality etc.)
Project Management of all activities for the start-up of pharmaceutical plant, for Accord Healthcare in Fawdon, Newcastle
I led the planning and co-ordination of all activities for the start-up of commercial pharmaceutical production and to obtain government (MHRA) authorisation for the site, which was achieved in May 2017. I then continued to support the site leadership team with longer-term planning for a variety of new products and for the future expansion of operations at the site.
Site development and relocation, for Dyer Engineering in Harelaw
I led the refurbishment of a large industrial unit which had been left vacant for a number of years. The scope of the project included;
- Agreeing a layout for the new facility
- Modifying the internal power distribution
- Repair and servicing of the heating system, IT infrastructure, toilets, motorised factory doors, fire alarm system
- Setting up the office
- Establishing safe routes of access around the site for employees, visitors and delivery drivers
- Design and installation of large branding and navigation signs around the site
- Landscaping
- Internal and external decoration
- Negotiating wider scale site improvements with the landlord
