This is a small set of examples of recent work I’ve delivered;
Extension and refurbishment of a Georgian house in the Brandling Conservation Area

This project was to develop the under-used north-facing rear yard to create a spacious kitchen and living area and ground floor shower room. The large roof lantern is used to maximise natural light in what could have been a rather dark space. I also led the design and installation of bespoke bookcases and internal redecoration of much of the rest of the house.
Refurbishment of two adjoining Edwardian houses in the Brandling Conservation Area

The scope of this project included dismantling and rebuilding the original boundary walls and reinstating railings and gates as close to the original design as possible. I also co-ordinated roof repairs, replacement roof windows, garden landscaping and other internal refurbishment work.
I used the old black and white photograph, above left, along with the rusty stubs of the original railings left in the stonework, to develop the design for the replacement railings.
Construction of a rear extension to a Victorian house in Heaton

I led the design and delivery of a rear extension to this family home, featuring a large roof lantern and fully-glazed entrance doors. I have also reconfigured and refurbished the master bathroom.

- new prime oak plank and parquet flooring throughout
- strengthening and insulation of the ground floor sub-structure
- enlarging and waterproofing the basement to create a large wine store and games room

Refurbishment of a three storey Victorian House in Newcastle

I have led the comprehensive refurbishment of this large, grade II listed family home.
I carried out the initial scoping of the project and then made applications to the local authority for listed building consent and to the owner of the freehold for their consent to the works. The scope included;
- remodelling room sizes to create a larger top floor bedroom
- installing a new bathroom
- rewiring
- replacing the heating system
- repairing the original sash windows
- redecoration and carpetting and a host of other minor works.
Re-alignment of sandstone base blocks and installation of new railings for a Victorian house in Jesmond
These railings were designed to match the metro line railings opposite the house. The arrow heads were hand forged and the bars are 20mm solid mild steel. The entire fixed section was fabricated in one section for neatness and hot dip galvanised for longevity.

Repair of boundary wall in Brandling Conservation area

This wall had become structurally unsound and I appointed a local bricklayer to rebuild it, using the original bricks and a traditional lime mortar, with a capping course of modern bricks to minimise the water penetration into the wall and increase its life.
Extension and refurbishment of a Victorian house in Jesmond

This project included extending the rear of the house with a pitched slate roof and three large Veulx windows and a three-panel aluminium bi-folding doorset to create a large, open-plan area for the children to play, a downstairs toilet and a new area of decking, using a hardwood and composite decking system.
Replacement of external boundary wall and new railings to match existing gates in Gosforth
The roots of the row of large lime trees had grown and cracked the boundary wall, which was becoming unsafe. With the agreement of the Tree Protection Officer, the wall was removed and a new lower-level wall was built which included lintels to bridge over the tree roots, creating space for them to grow without damaging the new wall. New railings were designed to compliment the existing gates and fitted directly into the sandstone copings.
